For one thing, since all UnboundID products share a common code base, they work together seamlessly. This lowers your administrative burden and enables you to manage the directory services topology as one service, not piecemeal.
And UnboundID also offers entry balancing, a fault-tolerant solution to quickly and cheaply spread data across multiple sets of servers. Entry balancing boosts scalability by
taking advantage of the memory across all servers for caching, without requiring changes to the existing entry content or hierarchy, and without forcing all applications to access data the same way. Plus, to save
critical time and resources, the UnboundID Directory Proxy Server includes a feature that enables administrators to easily track requests and responses throughout the directory environment.

High availability and load balancing
The UnboundID Directory Proxy Server allows transparent failover between directory servers if a problem occurs. It provides advanced health-checking capabilities, including examining server business, tracking entry contents and operation response times, monitoring replication backlog, and consuming administrative alerts from directory servers. It also spreads the workload across directory servers using a customizable load-balancing algorithm based on factors like the relative health and locations of the directory servers.
Improved performance and scalability
Using proprietary UnboundID technology, the UnboundID Directory Proxy Server can automatically distribute data across multiple systems when the entire data set cannot be *cached in memory* on a single system (known as "entry balancing"), improving directory environment scalability and performance without altering your existing data content or hierarchy. The client sees one large directory service rather than individual servers.

The UnboundID Directory Proxy Server provides additional firewall capabilities, as well as constraints and filtering to help protect the directory server from attacks. For example:
