Today's applications require services like reliable, global data replication, identity unification and transformation, real-time extensibility, and the ability to scale on demand using commodity hardware – identity management requirements that legacy enterprise directory services (and even many database solutions) were not built to handle.

In order to keep up with the changing needs of today's technology, today’s enterprise needs a solution built specifically to handle these types of application requirements – a next-generation directory services infrastructure that can support business requirements today and into the future.

Fortune 100 Aerospace Company – Oracle (Sun) Directory Migration

A large aerospace company needed to migrate away from Sun Directory Server due to the fact that Oracle support was being discontinued. Because of known issues with Sun Directory Server, they were forced to have over 20 servers spread across three data centers to reduce the risk of downtime. Concerns about the costs of the Oracle migration path, combined with the poor support response time, drove them to look at alternatives. The aerospace company required a solution that could help them seamlessly migrate without impacting production applications, and they needed a next-generation infrastructure that could support their business for the next ten years and beyond.

Using the UnboundID product suite, the aerospace company can perform migration incrementally and ensure that legacy and new directory environments are able to co-exist during the transition period. The UnboundID product suite automatically abstracts client applications from the migration effort, mitigating any impacts to ongoing business operations. And it allows them to improve the reliability and performance of their data infrastructure so that it can scale as their business continues to grow.

Fortune 500 Investment Bank – Temporary Access Provisioning

Temporary Access Provisioning SystemA Fortune 500 US retail and investment bank had experienced data availability issues with their temporary access provisioning system. Data integrity and replication latency were paramount to the application's operation, so they initially explored using a combination of database replication and message queuing technology to address the gaps. However, after careful evaluation of the effort that would be required to integrate and troubleshoot this type of complex distributed data replication model, they concluded that a directory services based approach would be more suitable.

Using UnboundID, the company was able to implement an identity data replication cloud that is both fully integrated and highly available across all four global data centers. They were able to implement a significantly simpler replication model, eliminate requirements for complex message queuing infrastructure, and deliver millions of daily reads at scale.
